This vintage rug is completely hand-woven, tied one knot at a time on a wooden village loom by Anatolian women who worked from memory rather than a drawn plan, pressing their patience and their quiet wishes for the household straight into the wool. Every star medallion along this Turkish runner rug was formed by hand with the traditional Ghiordes double knot. Because that knot wraps the wool around two warp threads instead of one, each fiber is locked deep into the foundation and cannot shed, slide or work loose underfoot. This is exactly why a hand-knotted wool runner keeps its body and its straight edges through decades of daily walking, while machine-made rugs go flat and thin within a few seasons.
