This vintage rug is a handwoven West Anatolian runner from the Uşak region, knotted row by row on a long village loom by women whose drawing hand was famously soft — no hard angles here, but rounded rosettes and curling leaf vines along the border, the kind of gentle line that has made Oushak weaving loved for centuries. She kept the field open and quiet, let the wool carry the colour, and closed both ends with a flowering border. The whole runner is worked with the Turkish double knot, the Ghiordes knot, in which the yarn wraps around two warp threads instead of one. That is why a piece nearly thirteen feet long is still straight, flat and sound after decades of daily footsteps: the double knot locks the pile into the foundation, so the rug does not shed, does not open along the walking line and does not stretch out of shape. The wool is handspun and lanolin rich, softer and more silky now than when it left the loom. It has been professionally washed and dried, so it arrives clean, fresh, odour free and ready to unroll and use for many decades more.
