This vintage rug is a handwoven Anatolian runner in true earth tones, knotted row by row on a village loom by women who dyed their own wool from what grew around the house — and it shows, because the olive, sage and moss shades here could only come from a plant pot, never from a factory. She drew serrated diamond medallions down the length, hooked the corners for protection, and filled the ground with small rosettes the way a weaver fills a long winter. The whole runner is worked with the Turkish double knot, the Ghiordes knot, in which the wool wraps around two warp threads instead of one. That is why this piece is still flat, sound and whole after decades of daily footsteps: the double knot locks the pile into the foundation, so the rug does not shed, does not open along the walking line and holds its shape in a busy corridor. The wool is handspun and lanolin rich, so it has grown softer with age.
