This vintage rug was made entirely by hand in Anatolia, tied one knot at a time on a wooden loom by village women who worked from memory rather than any printed pattern — the long central medallion, the framing brackets and the little scattered charms all carried in the head and the hands, woven row by row along with quiet wishes for warmth, protection and a long life for the family it would cover. Every knot is the traditional Ghiordes double knot, wrapped around two warp threads instead of one, which is exactly why a rug of this age still lies flat, holds its shape and takes daily footsteps without complaint: it was made to be walked on and passed down, not shut away.
